It's easy, in debates, to list the UN's bad/incompetent side: you tend to start with either Rwanda, Sudan or Libya being the head of the human rights commission, and then move on from there.Here is an article explaining where the UN has been more effective. Obviously, because of its author, it is wonderfully biased, but its still a useful knowledge dump if necessary.
